May 2023 Events

It’s May, one of our favorite months of the year!  The weather is beginning to warm so we can open the windows and enjoy the fresh air.  The flowers are blooming.  Joy is in the air.

This May, we have quite a few events at the Coburn Free Library.  First, we welcome a traveling art exhibit called “Behind the Wall”.  The exhibit opens with a reception on May 2 from 3-4 pm and remains on display until May 31.

The Coburn Academy hosts two programs this month.  On May 9, Emma Sedore will teach us the history of Maternity Homes and Hospitals in Owego.  On May 23, Rev. Robin Lostetter and Steven Hill, PT will present Polio:  My Continuing Life Experience.

We LOVE author visits so we are happy to announce local author, Lenora Riegel, will visit us on May 20 at 2pm.  Lenora writes books for toddlers through mid-grades so this is a perfect event for the family.

In addition to our monthly programs like Lego Clubs and Craft Club, we proudly offer a new option:  CHESS CLUB!  Author Pam O’Shaughnessy leads the chess club on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6pm beginning May 11th (designed for teens and adults).

If you read e-books, please remember that the old Overdrive app is being phased out this month.  More information is available at https://resources.overdrive.com/libby/.  If you need assistance downloading the Libby app, please visit or call the library.

We hope you will enjoy all of our program offerings for May 2023!  Plus, if you haven’t browsed the collection lately, you might have missed something great in our ever-changing collection.  In April alone, we added 133 new and “new to us” physical materials.  This year, we also increased our budget for e-materials!

Visit the Coburn Free Library at 275 Main in Owego where we gather together, share our love of books, spark excitement for learning, and build community.
