Our summer reading program is a community tradition that keeps kids and their families reading all summer long. We believe reading is a gateway to success in life. Summer Reading creates a motivational framework for learning at any age.  Check out summer reading for reading logs, prizes, challenges, and educational entertainers!

The 2026 Summer Reading theme: Unearth a Story. Whether readers are digging into a good book, uncovering hidden histories, or exploring the past, Unearth a Story underscores the joy of discovery that reading brings. It also emphasizes that every person and every community has stories waiting to be found and shared—through books, programs, and local knowledge.

While we all love summer vacation with fun events like summer camp, pool time, and maybe even a family vacation, we encourage you to incorporate reading and learning activities into your summer plans too!

Reading for just 20 minutes a day helps kids maintain the reading skills they developed during the school year. Not only will it help them stay on track when school starts back but with reading they can experience a summer of adventure by stimulating their imaginations.

Signing up for the Summer Reading Program is the best way for your child to keep reading over the summer. Summer Reading starts July 1 and continues through August 28.

Allow your children to pick out books and take them everywhere they go: road trips, the doctor’s office, grandma’s house. We also encourage e-books and audio books!  Listening to audio books at night or in the car is a great way to easily incorporate reading into your schedule.  Even better, why not take turns reading aloud?  Reading aloud helps build vocabulary skills while listening builds vocabulary and listening comprehension skills, and also increases our knowledge.

Adults can model lifelong learning by participating in the program with their children, grandchildren, neighbors, friends. Sign up, track your reading, and earn incentives.

Whether you visit relatives, enjoy a week at camp, or have a stay-cation at home, make summer even more fun by reading a little every day!
