Susquehanna River Tales by Emma Sedore: An Umbrella Academy presentation
October 22, 2019 @ 6:45 pm - 8:15 pm
“Susquehanna River Tales” by Emma Sedore
The Susquehanna is more than a river that wends its way 444 miles from Otsego Lake, in Cooperstown to the Chesapeake Bay. Its history is awesome; from its earliest use by Native Americans and the earliest settlers who had to use it as the main highway, to the complex management of today by the Susquehanna River Basin Commission. Here is a brief collection of its trials and tribulations from the past that most people do not even think about today and probably cannot even imagine. Emma Sedore has served as Tioga County and the town of Owego historian for a total of 32 years. Her accomplishments as a writer include three books: Hiawatha Island, Jewel of the Susquehanna, (a copy of which has been placed in the DAR National Library, in Washington, DC) The Town of Owego and Gone, but Not Forgotten, History of the Ahwaga Hotel. In 1999 she was honored with a Paul Harris Fellow award from Rotary International.
